Quality shall be the top priority for any product during application. LED displays are electronic products; large-sized screens contain at least several million pixels. Dead pixels are inevitable, which will degrade the overall screen quality and visual performance. No matter how high-end electronic products are, minor defects cannot be completely avoided. Therefore, we need to optimize the configuration to stabilize product quality. Through-hole LED lamps feature pin-mounted structure, thick encapsulant and large-size design, with an independent driver chip for each lamp. Thanks to such structure, they deliver superior stability and heat resistance, making them far more suitable for outdoor scenarios. Besides, through-hole LEDs boast high brightness and low power consumption.
In contrast, SMD lamps provide flat panel surface and delicate image performance. For large-pitch outdoor LED screens with fewer lamps in use, through-hole LED solutions are always the industry recommended choice.

DIP LED picture SMD LED picture
Each DIP LED lamp is equipped with an individual chip, and a set of RGB lamps forms one pixel. By contrast, one SMD lamp integrates three chips inside a single lamp body.As shown in the pictures above, DIP lamps feature a more robust structure, and the overall size of a full RGB lamp set is larger than a single SMD lamp. We will not elaborate on the various available lamp models here. Another key point: DIP lamps deliver roughly three times the brightness of SMD lamps while consuming only half the power. Taking energy efficiency and the high brightness requirements of outdoor applications into consideration, DIP lamps are the preferred option.
